Lightning striking fluorescent serpents
This wave of hot chrome metal breath over my spine
Lets have another drink
while the hailstones and demon rain
bounce off the corrugated roadhouse roof
Lets swallow our spirits
and obliterate the night
*
Moving star
bird of fire
open your wings across the sky
A white hot poker
this fervent tongue
is burning a hole in my spine
O ceaseless opal phoenix, sing!
Lets have another drink
while the thunder roars
and spreads its dread
a hundred miles around
Lets put another quarter in the jukebox
*
Moving star
bird of fire
your light is a voice
Oblivion
your light is a song
utter oblivion
blowing the veils
away from my eyes
obliterated in a long black tunnel of clouds
we drove the carweird insect harmonies
currents of airviolent, vertical movements
of heat escaping the ground surface
the shock to the eyesbloody green toads
and dismembered lizards falling out of the sky
an army of locusts alighting on the windshield
we drove the car on, into the dark Dakota night
longing, longing for unnamable things
*
Lightning striking fluorescent serpents
These sudden waves of gasoline breath over the spine
Lets have another drink
while the thunder roars
Lets have another drink
full of smoke, noise, and confusion
