SEA FEVER

Under the bridge the water is full of ships.  If it could quake my heart would wrest away from its guards and assume a throne as tall as a topmast moving out to sea. Beneath a crown of stars hymnal sails in the ascendant.  Nights moist consummate air carrying me to a wilderness beach where the rest of me waits beside your side

A tide of horses swims through the swollen black lanes to the moon.   A weight of wanting roped to their backs

At a dead gallop.  The waves would break me.  If I could open in your wide white arms.  A prodigal mermaid  with  eyes on fire. Buoyed by loves wild wings. Eastward leaning.  In the phosphorous sky where the ocean gathers high towards heaven my summer skin of silk and mother-of-pearl drinks in the still asylum of  a  blue sound
